2018 – Achille Bonito Oliva presents Danilo Bucchi’s The Wall of Painting

The site-specific intervention titled Lunar Black was carried out by Danilo Bucchi at the MACRO in Via Nizza, Rome, exactly one year ago, on June 23, 2017. The focal point of the intervention was the large wall in one of the project rooms, where the artist painted his unique system of signs and iconography, only to erase it three months later, accelerating the natural life cycle of a work of art. Curated by Achille Bonito Oliva, who praised the artist’s ability to “paint on the skin of the world,” this performative action is now documented in a film of the same name, directed by Silvia Morani, with cinematography by Gigi Martinucci and Brando Giannoni, music by Maurizio Cascella, and in collaboration with Galleria Il Ponte Contemporanea. Lunar Black – the film serves as both a record of the intervention and a standalone artwork, enhancing each individual element of the wall while clarifying and organizing its vision.
